Environment Watch in pictures
June 18th 2008 02:39
Oil-covered penguins are seen in the backyard of the S.O.S Rescate Fauna Marina (S.O.S Ocean Fauna Rescue), a non-governmental organization devoted to the rescue of ocean fauna, in Piriapolis, about 100 km (62 miles) east of Montevideo, June 9, 2008. At least one hundred penguins and other sea birds appeared on several beaches of Uruguay covered with oil, most of them dead. The Greek merchant ship Syros suffered a fuel leak after colliding with the Maltesse vessel Sea Bird on June 4 and Uruguayan authorities are analyzing the situation.

link to Reuters photos on what is happening to our environment and the weather and the disruption of lifestyle for those involved, and of all of them I've chosen the penguins covered in oil slick as the feature that is of interest.
