Photography as a creative art.
October 9th 2007 08:21
Hello. I have just taken over this domain. I am very excited about this. My perspective will be different in that I am going to be analysing photographs for you. I understand photography as a skill as well as its end results of artistic and professional and historical views. As you know I have been presenting two or more images a day on mspaint.art and I now feel these images need a home of their own and this appears to be the ideal place.
As well as analysing the photographs I shall be putting on posts of the technical aspects of photography and the use of cameras.
For those of you who have any capacity at all in the aspects of analysing and appreciation of the painted art and sculpture that should suffice to allow you to join in this exercise and for those who feel they don't I think everyone will admit that they enjoy looking at photographs even if it is only their own.
For those of you who feel they have superior skills in this area please share your thoughts with us. I, for one, and I feel sure many of my readers will be more than happy to hear from you.
This is an exciting venture come share my journey with me.
With the passage of time I would like to re-arrange this blog but all these things take time and for now I am happy to just get started.
The first image is from CNN from the Tate in London and is a black and white image.
Notice that the photographer has chosen to set his subject in the lateral vertical one-third rather than making the artist his central focus.
He has also chosen a back side view ( no double entendre intended) which allows the posture of the artist to be illustrated. His anatomical pose is captured this way rather than from the front as this would show simply that he was kneeling and not allow the sense of movement that the side image creates. The black clothing of the artist will be appreciated by those whose focus is fashion.
The small central black/white image suggest it is the tail of the art swinging into position.
This aspect also allows the vastness of the artist's theatre to be demonstrated. The lines in the white pavement can be seen so we sense on what kind of base the artwork is being placed.
The link to the image at CNN appears here and you will see from it just what I mean.
Black and white image from the Tate, London of the work of a distinctive artist viewed by his kneeling fan.
It seems to have been my lucky day as this image contrasts superbly with the previous one.
It is from the Arctic which is very much in the news lately.
Where else in one day could we discern the distinguishing differences of black and white in contrast and irony with a green sky.
The heavens declare the glory of God with the Northern Lights.
Here the photographer has selected a hoizontal curved one-third of the lower portion of his photograph.
The black silhouetted tree branches provide a stark contrast to the green showing the foliage of the trees in outline. We could do this in more depth but I feel that this is sufficient.
National Geographic describes its photo this way:
A leggy evergreen looms over a stretch of Arctic boreal forest as light from the aurora borealis paints the night sky emerald green.
These natural fireworks shows, also called the northern lights, occur when solar wind—electrically charged particles blasted from the sun—collides with atoms in the upper atmosphere over the Earth's magnetic poles.
(Photo shot on assignment for, but not published in, "Boreal: The Great Northern Forest," June 2002, National Geographic magazine)

We shall be talking more of cameras and techniques in other posts, don't feel you will be neglected.

Lovely to have a visitor, thanks for discovering me, especially as I did it, duplicated it several times thanks to the system deleted and deleted and deleted and then found I was ahead of the computer for once and they were ALL gone, the second attempt is not always the standard of the first, which is a shame.
Nice feet. I take it you're a barefoot kinda girl.
