What you need to know about photography.
June 25th 2008 07:24
Let's start at the very beginning shall we?
1. choose your camera carefully,
2. get to know your camera and its manual
3. get out and take photograph after photograph after photograph, the more you take, the better you'll become.
4. Move yourself and your body, you won't get great photographs from the easiest most comfortable positon , so move and look through your lens from every possible angle and position you can think of.
5. Practice, practice, practice - those are the first three rules of photography.
6. Study the images I put up for you daily and work out which is the best and which is the worst, in doing this try to work out why the best is best and why the worst is worst, you may even then change your mind.
7. think about the kinds of photographs you would like to take.
8. When I first started this post, I took over the work of another blogger whose perspective was different from my own. That work is still there, I make no reference to it but for those interested it is still there for you to hunt up for yourselves.
9. Learn the skills of photography and become familiar with its terms, there are many such posts here already, but because some of them can be difficult for you to find, I'm putting up one link to-day and when I recover from losing today's work I'll be putting up some more for you.
Happy shooting, remember to bring your camera with you, and that your photography will not improve much if you're lazy, but at the end of the day, even a bad photograph can be better than no photograph at all.
link to my first post on photography - I think you will find it useful. Unfortunately in finding it, I lost the rest of the post so now I must start all over again. That's life.

Number 2 really sucks. I guess I only have myself to blame but I suppose I should look up the manual to my camera...... (maybe)
Was wondering what you prefer though? Digital or Film? I have the Pentax MZ50 for film and a Fuji Finepix 5600 for Digital. Since buying the digital I've taken a much larger amount of photos than I would have with the Pentax. It's a whole different style to using Film I think (you just take a lot of pics and choose the best one).

I like film, but I am not so active with photography at present, but I rather think taking a lot of pictures then choosing the best is OK but learning more about photography will yield much better results ( and your camera and its pesky manual - you'll find with manuals they mean much more AFTER you've been using the camera for a while)
Glad to hear you're taking lots of pictures but I think unless you have a top of the line digital the resolution does leave a bit to be desired and too many 'pixelate' with enlargement.
But keep on taking photos of whatever sort, they're a great memento and with babies and children they change and grow so fast it's really good to have that library.

Ah well film is good....
But with my vision it's a bit hit n miss (more miss I think) and the coolpix has a wonderfully large viewing screen which makes it more hit for me now.
A high end digital would be nice. (Do you know a bank we can rob?).
Well I look forward to your lessons.....
Even though I only have an entry level camera I'm sure I can improve my photography (and shhh, don't tell the partner but I really don't like her habit of shooting portraits from the angle of giving everyone a really good look up my nose!!!).

Very nice and uses the Thirds Rule. Nice composition and lovely colours (especially in the umbrella and with the contrast of the red dress).
Photo's also not too busy either.
Of course the model doesn't hurt either

May your photography skills simply head up (rather than nose up) hint bend your head down a little when your partner shoots, always good to have some protection when you're in the line of fire.
