Savvy for Soltice
June 22nd 2008 21:43
Revelers play instruments during the annual summer solstice at ancient monument, Stonehenge on Salisbury Plain in Wiltshire, southern England June 21, 2008. Thousands of druids, revelers and the simply curious witnessed a cloud-obscured sunrise at Stonehenge during an annual pilgrimage to the site to celebrate the summer solstice, the longest day of the year.

I chose this first image as it tells the story and sets the scene of what is going on and accents stonehenge, where it is all happening.
Other choices are:
2 - because he is such a character, his colours and beard and wizened old face create atmosphere and it's well positioned with good background.
6 - such a colourful brolly against a blue sky, lifts the photo, together with the coloured jackets on several people, contrasting with the dark figures. Hint, umbrellas usually make good photographs.
7. a silhouetted man sits alone amongst black rocks in the lower part of the photo, contrasted with the appealing sky, good use of rule of thirds.
12 - speaks for itself, with its description
17 - indigenous culture and primitive rituals are apparent in the man's stance and the 'flag' he waves, gives good dramatic and colourful contrast.
There's always something interesting going on, or something different, these make good settings for good photography and for improving your skills.
The summer soltice, pagan rights, druid beliefs, a change of season cometh and many things occur which make good photographs
