In part because it isn't as space constrained or as expensive as New York City, Long Island became the destination of choice for speculators in the metropolitan region during the housing boom. Prices have softened accordingly as the market rid itself of investors. Structural risks to the market are expected to be low, as Equifax projects a year of low foreclosure rates.
