The MIR-2 submarine is lowered into the waters of Siberia's Lake Baikal during a test-run of a diving expedition in this July 24, 2008 file photo. The stark beauty of the world's deepest and oldest lake is under threat, ecologists say, because it lies downstream from a rich source of zinc.
