Photographing animals - just do it with love.

Animal photos
He's ready for the circus

I don't think these demonstrate really amazing photography skills, although some are quite outstanding, but I think the most important thing here is to get a satisfactory image and to do it with love and you'll see many demonstrations of love here and some funny eyes on an unusual picture, different strokes, for different folks.

I think everyone would like to capture some good photos of their pets and do remember that for the most part the animal won't willingly comply with the photographer so you'll need to be prepared and to be quick and many times you risk disappointment. And, above all, be patient.

But that's photography.

I love these pics, Katyzzz. I try to do the same with my dog but it's pretty hard.

It's the reversal of the master/slave syndrome. Just keep trying, as long as it's a snap and it's your dog. Don't worry he won't take your picture in retaliation.

I went to the zoo the other day... my photos were far less successful than these. Half of them were just pics of grass and a tail here and there!

Great animal pictures!!! I LOVE taking pictures of my animals. Very challenging when doing a new liter of pups. But the best way is to just keep snapping pictures. Your sure to get some wonderfully cute pics.
We have a liter due dec 15th so i'll ave some cute puppy pics comming very soon.

Fantastic post - I especially love the pony in the house!
And you say it so well - to get the best pics of animals you just have to accept they will not co operate(unless, of course, it happens to be Magnus who responds to all camera sounds with his big eyes) and just have the camera ready for 'moments'. I cheat - I take dozens from different angles and settings and pick the best few.
After 5 years we still have yet to capture Sampsons cutest face, he just wont do it when the camera is on!

Katyzzz,

Aww, I just melted all over the keyboard.

How lucky are we to have them as our lifetime companions?

Ah yes, you're right, the little angels do not cooperate do they? If I ask Fergs to look up, he gets up...it's easiest when he's asleep.

Beautiful pics....

Michaelie, You moved, the camera moved, the animal moved, you didn't keep your eye on the frame.

Stay still, stay fixed, stay focused, stay centred, and be prepared to fail, if all else fails take up Professional tail photography, with your success rate I'm sure you'll then get the animal, be quick, chick, don't flick for a good pick.

Tammy, Kleo, Lilla, Tracy, Rosemary, all animal lovers there. Tricks of the trade are a big deal with animals, and Tracy, just keep doing candids of Fergal, sooner of more likely later, you'll get what you want. Try reverse commands, tell him what you don't want him to do and when he does the opposite you'll be right.

Lilla, when you melted all over your keyboard and how you ever thought that one up I'll never know, some of it came over cyberspace to my keyboard and I'm still cleaning up. You musn't let your emotions get the better of you dear, you may perish.

Hi katyzzz

I never thought of this, great idea:

Try reverse commands, tell him what you don't want him to do and when he does the opposite you'll be right.

I might try that on my husband

True, katyzzz

But my husband loves photos and is always ready to pose when I have the camera...but I could try the method with other things like housework etc...my mind is plotting...

Housework is a good way to go, I suspect you'll have to do a lot of plotting.

Hi Katyzz,

I can think of nothing more beautiful or dramatic than photographs of thoroughbred horses. Although also a contentious issue with many. Years ago I had my trusty Olympus OM10 that I took everywhere (everywhere) with me. And all I have now are a few scanned images from albums. I have a very ineffective Olympus digital camera now. Fixed everything. It won't let me make my purposeful mistakes. So bland (I'm saving up for something better).

Ernst Haas is one of my favourite (all time) photographers. Love the movement and blurs.

Can you do a post on best digital cameras of a reasonable price?

Lovely to see you Leonard. I'll see what I can do. I'm so glad you love horses, I do too, even tho I've not had a great deal to do with them.

I'll do the cameras post for you asap.

These pictures are so cute. I'm trying to work on my photography skills when taking pictures of my pets. I especiallly and trying to find the perfect backgrounds and lighting when I take pictures of my reptiles.
