Photography: When going on a holiday....
August 30th 2006 15:55
Each time when we go on a holiday, the only thing that we could retain as fondest memory is the photograph that we shoot!
Most would start ‘clicking’ for the pleasure of it… too hype being on a carefree-holiday, literally lazing around …. When we get back to our rather routine life what keeps us going is these photos (of cause till you venture on yet another holiday!) Printing it, framing it. pinning it… Lord knows what else!!!
So what are the guidelines we're to follow when shooting these incredible photos which could eventually become a masterpiece?
This post outlines some of the items that you would like to pack along with your digital camera. They could be rather handy if you're travelling with your family or in a hurry. Its a kind of checklist I generally use very, very religiously!!! You're also welcome to add your tips that you think might be useful for our ardent travellers!!!
Tip #1: A 1GB memory card (most digital cameras use memory card) you will be able to capture about 350 – 450 shots depending on how vibrant & colourful the photos are. On the safer side do have another 1GB or at least 512 MB memory card with you. You will not realise how ‘powerful’ that 512MB will be till you have run out of storage space on your 1GB.
Tip #2: Do regular upload of photos onto easy, reliable sites such as !Yahoo photo album or other similar sites. Most hotels & motels do have Internet cafes.
Tip #3: As you upload your photos do delete the ones on the memory card. Pack a memory card reader along with your photography-kit!!
Tip #4: If the camera operates on battery, stack a couple of extra batteries.. so that when you are in the middle of your shooting spree, you’ll not run out of batteries. Which could be quite frustrating.
Tip #5: Have appropriate AC power plugs (it varies form country to country. You can check online or with your travel agent). Also check on the voltage … Invest on a good AC adaptor (generally comes along with the kit) and on power cord.
Tip #6: Always charge the battery of your camera before retiring for the day. So that it would be fully charged on the following day before you start on your venture.
Tip #7: A good tripod is a blessing! Do have many varieties these days.. a portable tripod that can be raised to a height of 3 feet is a good buy.
Tip #8: When not in use keep the lens of the camera shut. It’s a good way to prevent from dust as well as to protect the lens from scratches.
Tip #9: If you don’t intend to ‘recycle’ you camera within the six months of its introduction to the market – do get an opaque-marker that writes on metal : write your name or initials on the camera. Especially when you travel with a group, the camera can be easily identified if ‘swapped’.
Tip #10: Finally, have a safe trip and a happy holiday =)
