Wedding Photography - always remember it's HER DAY!

January 2nd 2008 22:41
The dress
Features of the dress

This is the Bride's chance to be beautiful. They've spent a lot of money on that dress, feature it.

The dress
That arm around her waist

They'll want photos of the Bride arriving and departing with her BRAND NEW husband.

Coming and going
Coming and going

Where are the photos of the cars, the bridesmaid's, unexpected features of the dress, the flowers, the bidesmaids and the wee tot attendants if there are any.

It does happen
Believe it or believe it not

Don't forget the best man and the Bride's family and the Groom's family and both families together.

Those flowers cost a fortune, capture them.

Where's the Church?, feature it.

And THE BRIDE and the BRIDE and the BRIDE and HER DRESS and her flowers and the rings and the cars and DAD giving her away.

The Bride and that Dress

Take your time with that dress, but not too much time, there's not much time and very soon HER DAY will be over.

The bride and her bouquet

Put a lot of thought into what you plan to do and know your camera well.

At the altar
At the altar

Make sure the lighting is good and you understand it. You do not want a lovely photo of the bride with a shadow across the face.

So much to do, and the reception and all those relatives and friends and how about the gifts.

wedding

Everything you think of will bring you acclaim from the families.

Rest assured they'll probably have a professional photographer too but you never know maybe one day it will be YOU.

And enjoy yourself, for whatever else, it is your day too.

And I feel quite sure there will be more posts on weddings, there is still so much left to do.

I dread weddings but I love wedding photography! They are always so beautiful!

And yes, it should always be the bride bride bride!

Ooh those dresses are fab. But if I choose to get married someday I will be wearing purple or green or something!

I've always wanted to elope in Italy and I don't want a traditional fairy tale princess type dress, but something sleek and chic - preferably dark, maybe black. I don't want a wedding party- just me and the groom - so my wedding pictures will be easy, just me and him.

Kat,
One biff I had with my wedding photography and the one thing I stipulated right from the beginning was that there should be a photo of both our immediate families and us together. Not only did my photographers do this but they also didn't even take pics of immediate family groups. Still really pissed about that.

It's her day? Since when? The idea that the wedding day belongs somehow to the Bride is a modern myth. It has nothing to do with reality. A wedding day belongs to both husband and wife, and people from only a few decades ago would laugh themselves silly to hear us saying it belonged to only one half of the couple. And when I see tv programmes like Bridezilla, I realise what harm this myth has done.

Mike:

I actually was thinking the same thing. I really don't understand the big fuss bride's make over weddings - "it's the biggest day of my life" etc., but I respect that they feel that way even if I don't. I agree it should be both people's day, but I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Well, Patricia, you and I will just have to start a campaign to change it! LOL

The memories are always very bridie focussed and well i guess there is so much focus and expense spent on the dang dress you want to remember that minutea.
I don't agree that it is her day and it's not because I am a girl - i guess it depends if bridezilla is running the show or not.
In any case - I do like the tips.
Thanks

great photos! not much of the marrying type myself but each to their own.

I hear of weddings where disposable camera`s are put at each table and the guests do the picture taking. That sounds good to me!

When I was in college, I was a photographer's assistant. I worked many weddings and James is SO RIGHT!

The scariest thing I have EVER photographed. I refused for years until a school friend insisted. I was so scared of screwing it up and having a Bridezilla hunting me for the rest of my days. They actually turned out good and now she loves me. LOL
