The Amish, traditionalist farmers who spurn machinery and other modern conveniences, live off the land much as they have for centuries in various communities in rural Pennsylvania and Ohio, and now live side-by-side with modern Americans. Amish children start work on the farm early, often milling about the barn almost as soon as they can walk.
