How to take better photos - black and white

June 18th 2010 06:31

Black white photos how BBC

TOM ANG

Black and white can be used to create a more intimate portrait or a more atmospheric landscape.
In this picture the complicated shapes and colours of Warwick Castle are reduced to blocks and lines of tone.

Black and white is more dependant than colour photography on shape and form to create interest.
Experiment with high and low contrast to give your pictures increased drama. (Contrast is the proportion of black.
