Tevyn Cole
Age: 18
Hometown: Maybee, Mich.
Business: School Me Clothing
At age 10 Cole was the face of Joe Boxer for K-Mart. The same year the 4-H Club member entered a T-shirt design contest. Inspired by Black History Month, he decided to create a t-shirt that paid homage to historical African-American inventions, including the traffic light, the mailbox and lawn sprinklers. It won a blue ribbon, encouraging Cole to design a full line with a hip-hop flavor and an educational bent. "In rural Michigan African Americans aren't well represented," says Cole. "It feels good to design something and teach my peers." Now a junior at Eastern Michigan University (he started college at age 15), Cole sells his wares online at schoolmeclothing.com. Cole hopes to use his minor in Japanese to expand his business globally.
