Dutch orca
November 10th 2011 20:38
Britain's Steve Hearn, head trainer at Dolfinarium Harderwijk and caretaker of orca Morgan, kisses her after feeding her in Harderwijk, Netherlands, on Nov. 8, 2011. Animal rights activists made a last ditch appeal to an Amsterdam court, which rules on Nov. 21 whether or not to release a 4-year-old killer whale back into the wild rather than let her be sent to the Spanish marine park Loro Parque on Tenerife island. Morgan was rescued last year from the Wadden Sea off the northern Dutch coast, ailing and emaciated. The Dutch facility that nursed her back to health now wants to transfer the orca to the Spanish marine park, arguing she would likely not survive in the wild.
