A stallion is left to choose a mare in the boxes of the Swiss National Stud in Avenches August 31, 2010. The Avenches Swiss National Stud Farm's goal are to improve horse breeding and raising conditions as well as of the horse's use in the rural environment, especially of the Franches-Montagnes breed, the only Swiss horse and the formation of the breeders. The decision of the Swiss Government to cut funding for the breeding centre was harshly criticised in cantons in western Switzerland. Supporters of the National Stud have submitted a petition to parliament signed by 62,000 people.
