Beijing, China
China's second-largest city--and host of the 2008 Summer Olympics--is the cultural heart of the mainland, with historical sites like Tiananmen Square and the Forbidden City, opulent palaces and temples and modern architectural masterpieces, such as the avant-garde China Central Television Building by Ole Scheeren and Rem Koolhaas.
