Awards to ashes: A slumdog story

A fire in a Mumbai slum destroyed thousands of homes including that of child actress Rubina Ali, one of the stars of the Oscar winning film "Slumdog Millionaire".

Days after the makers of "Slumdog Millionaire" said they had bought an apartment for one of the child actors whose shanty had been demolished, the Maharashtra state's chief minister said he had allotted flats to both child stars. Azharuddin Ismail and Rubina Ali, whose homes were torn down by civic authorities because they were illegal, have been allocated an apartment each and could move into them soon, a statement from the chief minister's office said.
